I created this site to keep notes on different technical hurdles I run into and how I either overcame them or worked around them. Originally, I was making these notes just for myself so that I could review them if I ran into the same issue in the future. However, because I Google a lot throughout the day, depending on others’ blog posts and StackOverflow posts, I figured I could share my notes in an attempt to pay back some of the help I’ve received over the years.
I’m going to try to split content into 2 main categories, notes and long-form.
- Notes will be short, simple, and not well structured. Usually, these will just include a few comments and code dumps.
- Long-form on the other hand will be more formalized documents with more explanatory text and walk-throughs. These writeups will likely be born from notes, adding additional information and structure as I have free time.
The content will hopefully be quite varied in both focus and language.
- Bioinformatics topics
- General tool development and home server maintenance
- Some hardware tinkering.
Welcome! I’m Mike Lape, I recently received my PhD in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. I have a keen interest in trying to translate cutting-edge science into the clinic to help patients. I mostly develop in Python and R, but I do experiment with other languages such as Rust.
